to Joseph how God would be using them to bring the Messiah, God's anointed one, to earth to save mankind from their sins. Both were willing to become servants of God regardless of how people would treat them and their son Jesus or what they would say about them. They only wanted to obey and be used by God.%u201cIn the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. %u2026 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.%u201d (John 1:1-10, 14)John preached a baptism for repentance and it was said all Judah came to John to be baptized. (baptizo, a Greek word meaning immersion). %u201cNow some Pharisees who had been sent questioned him asking, %u2018Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?%u2019 %u2018I baptize with water,%u2019 John replied, 'but among you stands one you do not know. He is the one who comes after me, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.%u2019%u201d %u201cJesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, 'I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?' Jesus replied, 'Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.' Then John consented.\he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him; and lo, a voice from heaven, saying, 'This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.%u2019%u201d (Matthew 3:13-17).Compiler%u2019s Comment: This confirmed what John had said prior to Jesus coming to be baptism %u201cLook, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!%u201dFollowing His baptism %u201cJesus, full of the Holy Spirit, was led by the Spirit into the desert and where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.%u201d (Luke 4:1-2) Then the Devil tempted Him in all things like we are tempted: %u2022 Desire for food %u2013 the lust of the flesh, %u2022 Desire for power %u2013 the pride of life, %u2022 Desire for things %u2013 the lust of the eye.
