%u201cThat which was from the beginning, Christ, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched-this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.%u201d (1 John 1:1-2).It is in Christ that we are reconciled to God for %u201cJesus answered, %u2018I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.%u2019%u201d (John 14:6).Therefore, Christ must be the Good News. Before the %u201cGood News%u201d message could become available, an atonement for sins was necessary. Jesus, who lived a sinless life, would freely give his life as the %u201cblood sacrifice%u201d required. Therefore, Jesus%u2019 Good News offers man a choice to accept or reject God%u2019s offer of forgiveness and salvation. %u201cWhen he had finished praying, Jesus left with his disciples and crossed the Kidron Valley. On the other side there was an olive grove, and he and his disciples went into it. Now Judas, who betrayed him, knew the place, because Jesus had often met there with his disciples. So, Judas came to the grove, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons. Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to him, went out and asked them, %u2018Who is it you want?%u2019 %u2018Jesus of Nazareth,%u2019 they replied. %u2019I am he%u2019 Jesus said. %u2026 Then the detachment of soldiers with its commander and the Jewish officials arrested Jesus. They bound him and brought him first to Annas, who was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the high priest that year. %u2026 Meanwhile, the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching. %u2018I have spoken openly to the world,%u2019 Jesus replied. %u2018I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret. Why question me? Ask those who heard me. Surely they know what I said.%u2019 When Jesus said this, one of the officials nearby struck him in the face. %u2018Is this the way you answer the high priest?%u2019 he demanded. %u2018If I said something wrong,%u2019 Jesus replied, %u2018testify as to what is wrong. But if I spoke the truth, why did you strike me?%u2019 Then Annas sent him, still bound, to Caiaphas the high priest. %u2026 Then the Jews led Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. %u2026 Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, %u2018Are you the king of the Jews?%u2019 %u2026 %u2018Is that your own idea%u2019 Jesus asked, %u2018or did others talk to you about me?%u2019 %u2018Am I a Jew?%u2019 Pilate replied. %u2018It was your people and your chief priests who handed you over to me. What is it you have done?%u2019 Jesus said, %u2018My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place.%u2019 %u2018You are a king, then!%u2019 said Pilate. Jesus answered, %u2018You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason, I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.%u2019%u201d (John 18:1-5, 12-13, 19-24, 28, 33-37).
